One of the dumbest words in our culture is "normal." The word always sounds as though that which, or those who are other-than-normal are abnormal. And abnormal has always come with an underlying meaning of "strange."

"I can't begin to thank you how special you made me feel on [daughter's] wedding day and on our 35th Wedding Anniversary Day all dressed up in the beautiful outfits you adorned me in on both momentous occasions. I'm so happy we've been able to share so many significant milestones in our lives with you both! I truly hope your daughter will now be able to enjoy these lovely outfits and show them off on many grand occasions. If not, I'm sure there are many exemplary charitable organizations like we talked about who would welcome the opportunity to auction them for a wonderful cause having been worn only once by the First Lady of Virginia to her daughter's Wedding at the Executive Mansion and celebrating her 35th Wedding Anniversary with the Governor. Actually, if that happens I think I'll be there to bid on them myself! Please know that we cherish our friendship with you and look forward to many more wonderful memories together ahead! XOXO! Maureen McDonnell"

The House Republicans, mis-guided by the Tea Party's enduring hatred for President Obama and the country, are serious about pushing America over a cliff with the first Government shutdown since 1995. Remember 1995? It was the last time a popular Democrat was trying to run the country. The Republicans had a national temper tantrum back then too.

This year's "Best News Photo" goes to basically any photo depicting the tragic Costa Concordia capsizing, which occurred early in 2012... and began a year of stupid.

"Virginia is one of 16 states that have a history of discrimination
and must receive federal approval before changing voting laws.* The states must prove to the federal government that the new statutes would not discriminate against minorities. If McDonnell signs the legislation, the Justice Department will have 60 days to review it. Xochitl Hinojosa, an agency spokeswoman, declined to comment." (SOURCE)

"He resorted to his own, flashy crowd-pleasing steps!"
In what appears to be playing out like the “there are no new steps” scene in Strictly Ballroom, Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy today reaffirmed his company's policy:

Still "Crazy" for Patsy Cline.
On the occasion of what would have been Patsy Cline's 80th birthday and the just-opened mega-exhibit Patsy Cline: Crazy for Loving You (through June 10, 2013), at Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame, I thought I'd turn the tables and, since Ellis Nassour is the internationally recognized go-to guy for all things Patsy, interview him about the legendary country and pop singer.
Nassour is the best selling author of Honky Tonk Angel: The Intimate Story of Patsy Cline.

"Despite the campaign positioning, on the most fundamental international issues, the president and his challenger generally share the same goals, even if they would get there in different ways."
That's from a rather stunning piece in the New York Times called, "Romney and Obama Strain to Show Gap on Foreign Policy" by Peter Baker (07/28/12).
