TABOO

"The Culture War battles (won and lost) during the Clinton Age prepare our side (the right one) for the Culture War battles of the Obama Age"

It has been almost 20 years since Madonna's Sex book was released, causing enough of a stir to make it the most successful coffee table book ever...

This book, which was released in October 1992, became a lightning rod for criticism from all sorts of moral and religious groups. With extremely explicit photographs and text, even the Japanese version was banned only after a couple of days on sale there.

Defiant, Madonna gave those groups the figurative middle finger with the song, "Human Nature"... her personal contribution to the Culture War of the 1990s.

It's interesting to look back at this book, its impact, and the surrounding outcry. And then to ponder just how far have we come since? Have the holier-than-thou folks eased it up any? And then you figure out the answer to that question rather quickly. Based on recent evidence, the Culture War is very much alive.

Happily, the Culture War battles (won and lost) during the Clinton Age prepare our side (the right one) for the Culture War battles of the Obama Age. We would do well to use the 1990s model to navigate through today's battles.

... And thanks, Madonna. The book is still amaze!
